Changing my Life

     Have you ever been to the University of Kansas? When I have prepared to go there, I thought that it is very small, and there are not interesting events. However, it made me to change my views in several ways. 

     First, my research area has expanded. My major is Family Policy, and I earned Ph.D degree in 2010 in Korea. So far, I have focused on these fields before I came here. For example, in order to for Korea to solve low fertility problem, we have planned “Health Family Policy, the 5^th,” and I used to work for the Institute of Family Policy. However, When I came here, I have found some articles about American elderly living and met professors at social welfare. In particular, American middle-age has entered in Baby-Boomers in 2010, and I have been interested in this area. It is useful for me to research on Korean Baby-Boomers. Therefore, I might apply for Ph.D program in School of Social Welfare after I will finish at the AEC classes.

     Second, I have been experience about multiple cultures through at the AEC classes. I have been taking English classes since January in 2012. Although there are many multicultural families in Korea, I have felt various languages, religions, and custom. For instance, lately, I have been studying with Indonesian friends. Even though it is summer, they do not wear short-leaved shirt because of religion. When I met them, I do not understand, but I know that why the religion affects how to wear clothes for them. For this reason, my opinion has changed, and I have been multiple cultures in the world.

     Finally, I have been saving money since January in 2012. I was a Research Associate Professor before I came here. At that time, I eared money by myself and could buy everything. However, I have bought a cheaper lately. For example, when I went to Walmart, I could not purchase a new air conditioner because it was expensive. Due to the fact that I do not work, I have to save money and can not spend money.

     In conclusion, my views which were experienced at the University of Kansas has changed positivly since I arrived here.

     Most of the older people in the world are longer and longer. However, it is hard to predict the future, but one thing is certain, people are living longer and the numver of older persons is growing.

Cause-effect : Thyroid

Thyroid

             Have you ever heard Thyroid? or do you have any illness? I could not wake up early morning and do anything because I have been Thyroid. Before I have it, I wake up early, and every my life is so interesting. Since I have been Thyroid, I felt very tired. When I knew these features, I went to hospital in no time. Then I took blood test, and I waited my results. If there were not any obvious symptom in my body, I will not go there. However, because of extremely tiredness, I decided to go there. It was not temporary symptom. While I was waiting for result, I was scared. After I know that there is Thyroid in throat, I was sad. I have to take medicine every morning because I have Thyroid. If I will have a baby, I have to take it. Because of this illness, I am stressful, and every day, I feel tired. Therefore, I can not do everything and study hard. Nowadays, I am more tired than before. Therefore, I went to Watkins Hospital last week, I took blood test. Currently, I am waiting for result.

#3 : Different vacation

Blog 3 : Different vacation

             Most People and student in Korea go on a vocation. Through it, they take a rest or make a schedule in order to improve their goal. However, there are two different types of vocation: vacation and break. I used to go on a vacation and have summer and winter break. First, vacation means worker’s vacation. As you know, most of the workers in Korea work so hard and hard. According to OECD, Korea is the top country about working time in the world. Therefore, every summer they go on a vacation per year. Even though there are some vacations, summer vacation can use all of them. For example, before I came here, I used work for Institute of Aging Society as research fellow. When I got a summer vacation, my husband and I went to Jeju Island. Through summer vacation, we could take a rest and after vacation, we could work well. Second, instead of summer vacation, most students have summer and winter break. It is distinguished vacation. Though break also take a rest, through it many students make a plan in order to study. For instance, as you know, English is important language in the world. In order to get job, we have to speak well, as well as, we have to get TOEIC or TOEFL scores. Due to getting it, many student study during summer or winter break. For this reason, vacation and break is not similar. However, because of both of them give us relaxing and achievement of goal, we are happy to go on a vacation and get summer and winter break.

#2. My favorite restaurant makes healthy food.

      My favorite restaurant, for several reasons is Dulpul which is located in Seoul, Korea.

First of all, Dulpul uses a specially made seasoning in their food.  For example, when all the food is made, instead of salt and sugar, natural materials are more palatable than general foods.  When I had this food, I always felt that my body is healthier.  Second, Dulpul has many different types of foods.  For instance, when I used to work for Korean Women’s Development Institute, I had important conferences.  Because of many different types of foods, after finishing the conference, many people could choose from this menu.  Finally, if you go there, you can have delicious Korean food and listen to Korean music.  Dulpul is a restaurant which is known for its food, such as Hanjeongsik[1], Japchae, and Hwangtae-gui.  However, as well as theses foods, Korean traditional music always contains for all visitors.  In order to take a rest, food and music are very important factors, such as Korean folk songs.  Indeed, Dulpul is wonderful restaurant to go if you visit Korea. I would like to recommend this place.

My favorite place on campus.

      Watson Library is my favorite place for several reasons. First, it gives me more information about books, journals, and articles. For example, my major is Gerontology. In order to write article, I have to search various journals and articles. I can search it through Watson Library. Also, it serves free articles. Second, I can use more comfortable computer than other place. For instance, sometimes, I use my laptop in Kansas Union. Surfing the Internet in the KU, it is so difficult for me because it takes a long time. However, the library has a lot of computers, and it does not take a long time. Finally, it is cool in the summer. When I went there, it always gave me cool place because of air conditioner. Even though it was so hot and humid, I can feel more cool and fresh. Indeed, Watson Library is a wonderful place to study with comfortable reasons. Indeed, Watson Library is a wonderful place to study with comfortable reasons.
